Getting ready for a first date can be nerve-wracking. A million things can be going through your head and, sometimes, those things can make you so nervous or unsure of yourself, that you are doing yourself a disservice. You don’t want to head into the date with a chaotic state of mind. When you are getting ready for your date, remember these quotes to help you keep yourself as calm, cool, and collected as possible.
It Might Not Work Out
This quote is a joke, but it’s also kind of true. Often on first dates, you find out something that is a total deal breaker, and at that moment you know that there will never be a second date. Then in hindsight, you wonder why you got so worked up about the whole thing.
Yet when you are getting ready for a first date, you are thinking about how you really like this person or want to like this person. You’re hoping that they will be the one. You’re nervous because you are wondering whether or not they are going to like you or whether or not it’s going to work out.
The fact is that there is a chance you are going to find something that may make them less appealing to you than they are now. And, there’s a chance they will find something about you that they don’t like.
So, don’t make this first date the most important date in the world that will make or break your life. Tone down the seriousness of it a bit. Take the pressure of the whole thing.
While it is important to make a good impression so that you can get a second date, it’s much more important to get to know the person and decide whether they are a good fit for you. Or, in other words, whether you should go on a second date.
When you start to view your first date as a trial run for a potential second date rather than a moment in time that you could totally screw up your entire life, you will feel much less nervous.
You Are Going To Make Your Date Feel Good, So The Date Will Probably Be Good
You may find out that you are not that into each other. But, no matter what happens, you are going to make your date feel good which means the date will be good. Why? Because you are going to ask them questions and share a little bit about yourself as well. This is going to make you both feel more comfortable with each other, connected, and valued, which will make your first date run much more smoothly despite whether or not you have a big connection.
Remember, when you make your date feel good, they feel good about you.
So, instead of worrying about what will happen, practice your go-to questions for your first date. Questions like:
- Do you have any unique talents? This question will let you learn more about them and give them a chance to boast or show off, which always feels good.
- Where is your favorite place to travel? This question will give you a ton of insight into what they enjoy. And it will give them a chance to reflect on things that make them happy and share those things with you.
- What are your focus goals right now? This question will help you understand their dreams and desires more, and it will allow them to share what they are striving for and, most importantly, who they are striving to be.
Just remember to answer their questions as well. You don’t need to share everything on a first date, but the more you get to know each other, the more comfortable you will be and the more you will be able to determine whether you should spend the time on a second date.
You Have Stuff To Offer Others
This is the thought that helped me go into first dates without much fear or nervousness at all. I knew my value. I knew that I was a good catch. So the date was just an opportunity to see if the person and I had some chemistry or not.
Put your focus on how awesome you are.
- What do you have to offer someone?
- Why should they like you?
- Why do other people think you are great?
- Why would your date be more than lucky to get you?
These are the things you should focus on while getting ready for your first date.
If you think about how awesome you are while you get ready for your first date, you will go into the date feeling confident. You will feel like you have something to offer this person if they are a good match.
This date is not a test of how worthy you are. It is simply a test to see whether or not you are a match.
And remember, whether or not the date works out, you are still awesome.
At Least You Are Going On A First Date!
Your date may suck. It’s true. But at least you get to go on a first date! At least you get to have the experience to add to the list of moments in your life.
There are so many people who are struggling to get a first date with someone they like. You did it. You are in the midst of things. You are dating, which means you are living your life rather than watching other people live theirs.
That something to be proud of.
So, focus on the fact that you have a first date rather than how the first date will go. Focus on the fact that you are living life and trying to make things happen rather than sitting around doing nothing.
